The value of replication

April 3, 2012

Roddy Roediger on the value of replication.

He does a nice summary of Stapel, and the initial fallout from the Fraud.  Point out that this is NOT unique to psychology (of course!).  And, then goes through the issue of replication.  Of course, replication work happens, as he mentions (he brings up two examples from his own work).  But, he also analyses some of the downsides of non-publishing of non-replication.  (Yes, it may be because it was not well done, but also that the incentives goes against doing a well done non-replication).  And, then brings up the file-drawer site – which I have linked below.
