Peer review: Let the sunshine in!

April 9, 2012
Jelte M. Wicherts , Rogier A. Kievit, Marjan Bakker and Denny Borsboom have a paper in Frontiers of Computational Neuroscience suggesting that Peer Review should also be brought out into the open. The gist, peer reviews should be published, and signed, and eventually also voted on.

It may please you to know that at least some of this has already been in place for a while: http://goo.gl/Jt6hF. It’s not exactly the model presented in that paper (still some anonymity in the system) but it goes several steps in the right direction…

  2. Thank you so much for that link! It is good to see changes taking place, and to perhaps be able to evaluate how well it would work. I was talking to a prof here, who is also the editor of a journal, and what the paper does not thoroughly consider is that there may be a downside to the openness also. (That is, we may always need to have some kind of anonymity in place). All of these things can be gamed. It is a matter of finding a good optimising model!
