Journals, Filtering and changing practices.
Interesting blog post from Pedro Beltrao on his Blog Evolution of Cellular Networks. He wrote this after what he says was a Twitter argument with Björn Brembs on Journals and impact factors. His argument comes out of his position that we need filters. There is so much produced that it is impossible to use ourselves as filters, and journals have served as filters, albeit imperfectly so (perhaps dramatically imperfectly so).
Whether or not we have journas, filtering is needed. And, perhaps (as he claims) there are better ways.
